Girard Medical Center  INPATIENT SERVICES

Continuing Care Hospital
The Continuing Care Hospital (CCH) is geared towards patients whose condition require acute care services over an extended period of time i.e. a minimum of twenty-five (25) days. The CCH specializes in ventilator weaning and complex wound management.  CCH is a referral hospital to which patients are transferred to continue their complex acute care.  These patients are referred to CCH by acute care hospitals which are not reimbursed for these patients.  The patients are typically frail and elderly and have been treated at one of the area's acute care facilities.

Psychiatric Programs
NPHS is one of the area's largest providers of inpatient, residential and outpatient psychiatric services.  The following are the inpatient services provided by GMC

Acute Psychiatry
A hospital level program serving individuals with severe mental illness.  The majority of patients are involuntarily committed following court proceedings.  This service has been in operation for over 5 years and has developed a good reputation for treating a significantly impaired population.

Extended Acute Psychiatry
A twenty-two (22) bed hospital level program specifically designed to serve dual diagnosis (mental illness and substance abuse) patients whose illness requires a longer than average length of stay.  Most patients are involuntarily committed, the average length of stay for patients in this program is approximately 75 days.  Utilization has been at one hundred percent (100%) with a waiting list.
